It was the summer of 2015, I was sitting at my desk and becoming fed up with constant back pains. I’d get a reminder every now and then via, what felt like, a pinch in my lower spine. It was annoying to say the least. I had heard a little bit about standing desks but I didn’t take it seriously enough and they were beyond my budget at the time.

Then a light bulb switched on in my head. Eureka! I could make one from scratch.

So, after doing a bit of research, I purchased two inexpensive small IKEA TV stands to place them on my desk. One would act as a platform to raise my monitor, and the other to use my keyboard on. Beside them, I’d placed a laptop table for my mouse. Once I had them in place, I released that the monitor still needed raising, so I stuffed five really thick books underneath it.

I was over the moon! I couldn’t believe that I had just built my own standing desk. What an achievement. I literally told everyone about it.

Just a few hours after use, I came across a huge stumbling block. My legs were feeling tired and I wanted to alternate to work in a seated position for 30 minutes. Herein was the issue. I couldn’t.

After this experience, I spent a long time researching (and saving) just so I could purchase a Varidesk Sit Stand Desk. A desk that could be raised and lowered.

And from there is where we coined the name or our website, ‘We Sit Stand’.
